The building complex of the Teleki castle

The castle is an architectural complex built from 1772 on the foundations of a medieval fort by the renowned aristocratic Teleki family who have settled in the locality starting from 1674, when this domain was granted to Teleki Mihály by Apafi, prince of Transylvania. Often called “the most beautiful castle in Transylvania” and “the treasure of the Mureș River”, the building complex is situated at a distance of 17 km from Tîrgu Mureș, on the left bank of the Mureș River, built in Grassalkovich style, very popular all across the Kingdom of Hungary. It was designed by the architect Andreas Mayerhoffer of Salzburg, being similar to the palaces of Gödöllő and Pécel, also designed by him. The Teleki castle is set in the frame of an impressive dendrological park with allegorical statues and an artificial lake, fed by the Maria well and was partially shaped out of a portion of the trench surrounding the old fort.
