About the area

The so called Plain Valley of the Mureș River is the narrow strip of land, on the border between the Seat of Maros and the Transylvanian Plains that stretches between Tîrgu Mureș and Reghin, on both sides of the Mureș River, mostly inhabited by Hungarians. Despite the fact that the region’s settlements during the past centuries used to belong to different administrative units, due to their landscape facilities and cultural heritage, the number of similarities is much higher than that of the differences.

On the left bank of the Mureș River, by the main road, there are a few settlements that stand for the central core of the region. Their common characteristic is that each of them has more than one monumental buildings – castle and church and that besides their rich architectural heritage, they are characterized by well-formed infrastructural and touristic network. In the summer, visitors are welcomed by the sight of white stork families on electric posts, while around Easter beautiful girdles on the gates of girls’ houses amaze the unsuspecting stranger. On the bank of the Mureș River there are many great sites for camping and fishing, but there is also a several kilometers long biking route starting from Tîrgu Mureș which is excellent for one day biking tours.
